Charging the Arc Furnace canvas print by Martha Ressler. Bring your artwork to life with the texture and depth of a stretched canvas print. Your image gets printed onto one of our premium canvases and then stretched on a wooden frame of 1.5" x 1.5" stretcher bars (gallery wrap) or 5/8" x 5/8" stretcher bars (museum wrap). Your canvas print will be delivered to you "ready to hang" with pre-attached hanging wire, mounting hooks, and nails.

Artist's Description
Here the scrap metal is being loaded "charged" into the arc furnace. It will take about an hour for it to heat up to the required temperature before it can be tapped. The whole top of the furnace moves aside when the furnace is charged. On the left side, you can see the electrodes glowing red, which means this was a second or third heat. I love the shadows, and the hazy factory lights in the distance.

Thank you again. It was amazing to me that the whole top of the arc furnace swiveled off so that more scrap metal could be dumped into it (called charging). All that scrap then gets melted down at about 2700 degrees, the metalurgy corrected, and then poured into molds.
